The Ode

In ceremonies of remembrance, it is custom to read a poem or excerpt of text.

One traditional recitation at Anzac Day events is the Ode – the fourth stanza of the poem ‘For the Fallen’ by Laurence Binyon (1869-1943). The verse, which became the League Ode, was already used in association with commemoration services in Australia in 1921.

The most well-known lines are:

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning

We will remember them.

Road closures for Anzac Day march events

To coincide with Anzac Day commemorations, some road closures will take place on 25 April – including Anzac Avenue at Strathpine. Specific closures will be announced closer to the date, and updated on websites and social media platforms.
