Flooding in North Lakes, Mango Hill & Surrounds

Due to the heavy and consistent rain and wind conditions delivered to us today and last night the following flooding issues have been reported in the North Lakes, Mango Hill and surrounding areas as at 2pm today. 

  • Flash Flooding and road closure Dohles Rocks Rd Off Ramp Murrumba Downs and exit ramp to Bruce Highway
  • Deception Bay Rd Bruce Highway - Water over road northbound lanes Bruce Highway before Deception Bay. Delays expected. Proceed with caution
  • Cnr of Chermside Rd and Kinsellas Rd West Mango Hill is closed due to flooding as well as Danzy Buchanan Park.

Wet Weather Warning For The Coming Days

The Moreton Bay Regional Council are urging local residents to prepare for wet weather over coming days with heavy rainfall and damaging winds predicted for South East Queensland as part of ex-TC Debbie.

Mayor Allan Sutherland said current weather predictions showed heavy rainfall in excess of 200mm could be experienced in parts accross the Moreton Bay Region later this week, particularly late Thursday evening into Friday.

Council’s Local Disaster Coordination Centre has been activated and the Local Disaster Management Group met at 3pm today to oversee local preparations and communications.

Armed Robbery Murrumba Downs

Detectives are investigating an armed robbery of a service station early Friday morning at Murrumba Downs.

Preliminary investigations indicate two men entered the business on Blythe Road shortly after 1am armed with a knife.

One of the men entered the counter area to access the till however was unable to obtain any cash.

Both men left the business on foot a short time later without any money.

No one was injured as a result of the robbery.

Investigations are continuing.

Preppies Get Free Eye Test at North Lakes & Deception Bay State Schools

Bounty Boulevard State School (BBSS) prep students are amongst the first in Queensland to have their vision screened under a new Palaszczuk Government program.

Chris Whiting MP, State Member for Murrumba visited BBSS last week to see the class have their vision screened.

“More than 30 nurses have been appointed as part of this $14 million program, which aims to screen the vision of every prep student in both State and non-government schools,” Chris Whiting said

Last Chance for Foundation Membership as North Lakes Sports Club Opening Looms

North Lakes Sports Club has announced residents have just two weeks to snap up the Club’s $11 foundation membership package before the offer ends on Friday 31st March.

General Manager Chris Sartori said the club had been overwhelmed with the response to its membership offer, with more than 2,000 foundation packages sold since membership opened in October last year.

“We sold close to 500 memberships in the first week, and since then there’s been a steady flow of applications coming through each week,” Mr Sartori said.

Pine Rivers Police would like to advise that break and enters have recently occurred in:

  • North Lakes
  • Mango Hill
  • Murrumba Downs
  • Griffin area.

Police ask that the public be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to Policelink on 131 444.

These offences are occurring during the day and the thieves are targeting jewellery and electronic equipment. The thieves are forcing and jemmying door and windows on homes to gain entry.

Mango Hill Boulevard & Bonnet Parade Intersection

Over a period of time feedback was submitted to council from the local community regarding vehicles ignoring the stop sign at the Mango Hill Boulevard and Bonnet Parade Intersection Mango Hill. This of course was a concern for local driver's and pedestrian safety. 

Council will improve the visibility at the intersection by moving the line marking forward. 

After reviewing motorists movements, council will replace the stop sign with a give way sign and associated line markings to safely improve traffic flow through the intersection.

Thank you to all the volunteers who participated in Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday 5th March.  There were 135 registered sites across Moreton Bay Region with 13 in Division 4.  It was great to see the community spirit in keeping our region clean and tidy.

Rebates Made Available For Power Bills, Sporting Fees and Mortgage Payments

Queensland home owners, low income earners and families with children in sports could be eligible for one-off cash payments to assist with their expenses.

Pensioners and seniors of QLD can receive approx. $330 per year from April 1st  to help towards their electricity, while those struggling with mortgages can apply for an interest free loan of up to $20,000.

 “It assists people who have mortgages that are at risk when people are in financial distress,” Senior Financial Counsellor Fiona Hawkins said.
