Local Winners Of The 2016 Moreton Bay Regional Council Australia Day Awards

We are proud to say that North Lakes, Mango Hill & Murrumba Downs residents were among the few winners of various Moreton Bay Regional Council Australia Day Awards for 2016.  

North Lakes State College Student Leader Alijah McDougal and Leukaemia Foundation advocate Rebecca Baker shared the Young Citizen of the Year award.

Alijah was recognised for demonstrating exceptional leadership both at school and in leading fundraising campaigns in the community for numerous charities.

Rebecca received the award for her efforts to promote leukaemia research and for helping the Caboolture Branch of the Leukaemia Foundation to raise significant funds for leukaemia ...

Westfield North Lakes Car Parking Congestion Plan

A local resident contacted us last week looking for answers about the poor management of the North Lakes Westfield car park. We of course were keen to find them too. 

He explains his most recent experience - that we can all relate to - as a 1 hour and 23 minute traffic jam as a result of customers having to use only one exit past the Coffee Club onto North Lakes Memorial Drive, because the other two exists were blocked off for construction.

New Griffin Primary School Opens

A new state primary school has opened today in the Murrumba electorate with more than 250 students, said Member for Murrumba Chris Whiting.

The new Griffin State School had attracted more than 100 Prep students and another 150 students across the other six year levels.

“The high Prep numbers shows the strong growth in this young family area,” Mr Whiting said.

“From the early planning stages there’s been a high level of community involvement at Griffin State School.

Time is running out to cast your vote for Narangba Innovation Precinct People’s Choice Award before the winners of inaugural Moreton Bay Region Innovation Awards are announced on February 5.

Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor Allan Sutherland said voting would close at noon on Friday, February 5, ahead of the Gala Awards Event that evening.

“The judging panel has put forward 15 finalists for the People’s Choice Award category and we need you, the people, to decide who wins,” Mayor Sutherland said.

Turning The Screws On Crime At Westfield North Lakes

Local North Lakes Police, VIP's from Pine Rivers Crime Prevention and representatives from the Mango Hill Progress Association teamed up to 'turn the screws on crime' at Westfield rooftop carpark yesterday.

The team were providing one-way screws as a deterrent to thieves who steal number plates which are then used in illegal activities and may result in the owner receiving infringement tickets, toll bills or even a visit by the local police. Cost of replacing the plates is also something the victims need to take care of.

$150 Voucher On Offer For Kids To 'Get Started' With Sporting Clubs

In case you haven't heard, Round 7 of the ‘Get Started’ vouchers initiative will open on 27 January 2016.

Part of the Palaszczuk Government’s $80 million Get in the Game’ program, the ‘Get Started’ vouchers give disadvantaged families $150 in assistance. The vouchers help parents cover enrollment fees and uniforms of their children, so they can afford to get them involved in sport.

The vouchers are on a First in Best Dressed system, so if you know of anyone who could benefit from this it would be advisable to let them know ASAP....

Road Closure Copeland Drive North Lakes

Project Manager Mick Waters of Shadforths Civil Contractors has notified us of an important road closure on Copeland Drive North Lakes.

As part of the construction of the remaining section of the North South Arterial Road between Discovery Drive and Endeavour Boulevard, there will be a closure of Copeland Drive between Hansford Street & Brindabella Court.

The closure will be on the 20th, 21st and 22nd of January 2016 between 6am and 6pm.

The closure will be for both traffic and pedestrians whilst the new bridge is installed.
