Thunderstorm Warning

At 4:15 pm this afternoon, the Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe thunderstorm warning for South East Queensland including the Moreton Bay Region with potential for destructive winds, heavy rainfall and large hailstones.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 4:15 pm, very dangerous thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Rosewood, Marburg and Amberley.

Very dangerous thunderstorms are forecast to affect Mount Nebo, southern Lake Wivenhoe and the D'Aguilar Ranges by 5:15 pm.

Destructive winds, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and large hailstones are likely.

Salvos Open at Rothwell

Rothwell Salvos Store will be celebrating its Grand Opening Sale on Thursday 5th November. The store which will be officially opened by Mayor Allan Sutherland of Moreton Bay Regional Council.

The opening will be followed by a grand opening sale with over 10,000 recycled garments, furniture pieces and other household items on sale.  A large crowd is expected.

Historic Nurse Navigators Ready for Rollout in Moreton Bay Region

Frontline services will be increased and patient safety strengthened with the rollout of the new Nurse Navigator positions starting in early 2016. 

Chris Whiting MP – Member for Murrumba said patients in the Moreton Bay region will receive better care with an extra 400 experienced nurses to be hired by the Palaszczuk Government over the next four years..

Free North Lakes Fitness Program Reaches New Limits

The number of people taking part in the free, outdoor fitness program at North Lakes has spiked 250 per cent since the sessions were launched five months ago.  

Latest figures reveal that 246 people from North Lakes and surrounding areas registered for the free Live Life Get Active (LLGA) sessions which are held each weekday during school terms at Aurora Boulevard Park.

Former Olympian and Commonwealth Games champion Jane Flemming is the co-founder of the private initiative and Stockland funds the 45 minute classes which include cross training, boxing and yoga.

Bray Park – A break and enter occurred between October 17–21 at Quiamong Court, Bray Park by smashing a window. A set of keys were stolen and property was damaged.

Superfast broadband is coming to more than 5,000 homes and businesses throughout North Lakes, Mango Hill and Griffin under an accelerated three-year rollout of the National Broadband Network (NBN).

Today NBN is releasing its full construction schedule, providing Australians with the greatest detail yet on when the NBN will reach them.

By spending just five minutes in the yard emptying any containers of water, Moreton Bay Region residents can make a big impact on the breeding cycle of mosquitoes.

Lifestyle and Amenity spokesperson Councillor Julie Greer said recent rain and warmer temperatures had created favourable conditions for common container-breeding mosquitoes.

“Any container in the garden or around the outside of the home is a potential place for mosquitoes to breed,” Cr Greer said.

Ibis in Endeavour Boulevard Park North Lakes

Council is aware that there is an Australian White Ibis roost site in Endeavour Boulevard Park on the corner of Cowen Terrace and Endeavour Boulevard, North Lakes.  Egg oiling and nest removal is currently being undertaken on a fortnightly basis to reduce the number of birds roosting and breeding at the site. Nests cannot be removed when there are chicks present (due to state government legislation protecting native bird breeding habitat). Therefore you may not notice an immediate reduction in the number of birds utilising the site.

Free Line Dancing In North Lakes Not What You'd Expect

It was a great turnout at North Lakes Breathe Health Club for the beginners class in Line Dancing last Friday, but it wasn’t at all what people expected.

There was no Bootscootin to country music. In fact it was the very contrast to what was taught. The dances were choreographed to music such as 'Turn the beat around' by Calico, 'Timber' by Pitball, 'Who put the bomp' from Greese, 'All in my head' and 'Bedroom' by Alvaro Estrella.  By the end of the session everyone was grooving to the music and couldn't help but put their own attitude to the steps. ...
