While New South Wales and Queensland prepare for State of Origin domination on the field, a battle off the field is helping to raise money for sick children.

Sunshine Coast family owned bakery Beefy’s will go head to head in the nation’s biggest bake off in ‘Pie of Origin’. Now in its fourth year, the State of Origin for meat pies challenge aims to raise $15,000 for children’s hospitals, one in Queensland and one in New South Wales.

Building Begins On Major Specialist Medical Centre

Construction of the North Lakes Specialist Medical Centre located on the corner of North Lakes Drive and Memorial Drive, has officially begun as of last Friday's Soil Turning celebration. Completion of the project is expected for April 2016.

The Specialist Centre will cover approximately 5000m² of floor space over 5 levels and there are already commitments from an X Ray firm to provide the broadest range of X-Ray and scanning services, numerous specialists covering all aspects like Orthopaedic, Ophthalmology, Obstetrics, Speech Pathology, Gynaecology, Oral & Maxillofacial, Dentistry, Gastroenterology, Urology, Heart Specialist, Hearing,  Brain Specialist’s  etc ...

Construction Begins On IKEA North Lakes

It’s official. The work is starting this week on IKEA North Lakes!

With the store scheduled to open in the second half of 2016, it will be all allen keys on deck for the building of this 29,000 square metre furnishing retailer giant.

The store will be situated next to the existing Westfield development at North Lakes and will include the full IKEA experience complete with Showroom, Markethall, Self Serve Warehouse, Swedish Food Market, Bistro and Restaurant.  It will offer:

Jane Flemming Gets Fit With North Lakes

Former Olympian and Commonwealth Games champion Jane Flemming launched the very first free outdoor health and fitness program right here in North Lakes yesterday.

The new Live Life Get Active program is a private social initiative that aims to get Australians fitter, happier and healthier with free training camps in local parks, suburbs and cities around the country.

More specifically the North Lakes Outdoor Activity Camps include 45-minute classes in cross-training, boxing and yoga each Monday to Friday at 9.45am at Aurora Boulevard Park, during school terms.

Local families are invited to join team members at Bunnings Warehouse North Lakes for a Family Fun Day on Saturday 16 May, for a day full of entertainment, interactive workshops, celebrity guests and fun for all ages.

The Family Fun Day at Bunnings Warehouse North Lakes will include a free jumping castle, snow cones and reptile show, as well as a special guest appearance from Masterchef contestant Dan Mulheron who will be holding BBQ cooking demonstrations.

A break and enter occurred during the day on May 5 at Adam Ct, Kallangur. Entry was with a screwdriver or similar tool used to force open rear door. 3 x 1 litre bottles of spirits stolen.

A break and enter occurred between July 2014 and October 2014 at Burns Pde, Kallangur. Inspection of rental property showed jemmy marks and damage to security screen. Nil stolen.

The New App Making Child Support Easier for Separated Families

A new smart phone app will make it easier for separated families to manage their child support payments.

Federal Member for Petrie Luke Howarth MP said last year, the Department of Human Services supported around 1.4 million separated parents to transfer around $3.5 billion for more than 1.2 million children.
