259 Vouchers for Local Children to Play Sport in Our Area

259 vouchers have been issued to local children to help with the costs of playing sport in our area.

Member for Murrumba, Reg Gulley, said the latest round of the Get Started program means that another $38,850 has been issued to local families to help with the costs of playing sport.

“The Get Started vouchers provide children who can least afford, or may otherwise benefit from joining a sport or recreation club with vouchers of up to $150 to help with club membership and/or participation fees,” Mr Gulley said.

Ready Steady Go Kids Comes to North Lakes

Australia’s leading sport and exercise programme for toddlers between the age of 2-6 has now opened in North Lakes.  Ready Steady Go Kids (operating out of the iPlaySports Centre) teaches preschoolers the fundamentals of 10 different sports which develops and enhances gross and fine motor skills in a fun, social, non-competitive and supportive environment.

Out-Of-Hours Concrete Pours – Mango Hill

Construction activity in Mango Hill is progressing well, with several bridge structures and the Mango Hill and Mango Hill east stations quickly taking shape.

Further to our recent notification, early morning concrete pours will be undertaken every 2-3 days, starting at 4.30am, from 27 October until mid-November 2014, at the Mango Hill station site, weather permitting.

Early morning concrete pours will also be undertaken each day, starting at 4.30am, from 27 to 29 October 2014, at the Mango Hill Boulevard East bridge site, weather permitting.

These pours are required outside normal working hours to meet project constraints.

Bruce Highway Rail Bridge Night Work

From Monday 27 October until late November 2014, work will be undertaken each night between 9pm and 4.30am to install permanent maintenance walkways and throw screens on the rail bridge over the Bruce Highway (refer to the map above).

The Bruce Highway and the on and off-ramps to Anzac Avenue will be subject to lane closures and reduced speed limits during this work. Minor delays may be expected. At least two traffic lanes in each direction on the Bruce Highway, and at least one traffic lane on each of the Anzac Avenue ramps will be maintained at all times during this work.

$1 Million Boost for Pets

Moreton Bay Regional Council has awarded a $1.09 million tender for the construction of an expanded animal care centre at the RSPCA’s Dakabin site near North Lakes, assisting in vital animal services for all creatures great and small.

Mayor Allan Sutherland said the new 769m2 facility would provide a safe, temporary home for the region’s lost pets. 

“This facility will help to ensure that the RSPCA can continue to look after lost pets registered with Moreton Bay Regional Council until they’re reunited with their owners,” Mayor Sutherland said.

$5K is a Click Away for the Moreton Region's Communiy Groups

Sporting clubs, school P&Cs and other not-for-profit organisations across the Moreton Bay region are running out of time to apply online for a Community Grant from Stockland.

A total of $5,000 is available in grants to be given on behalf of Stockland’s North Lakes community.

The deadline for applications has been extended until Friday, 7 November to ensure as many groups as possible can apply by visiting

Boundary Road Ramp Closure

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) would like to inform you that night works will be undertaken on the Boundary Road southbound on-ramp to the Bruce Highway from 9pm to 4am, on Thursday 23 October 2014, weather permitting.

These works are in preparation for a temporary closure of the on-ramp on Monday 27 October and Tuesday 28 October 2014 from 7pm to 4am, weather permitting.  

A detour will be in place during the ramp closure, directing traffic along the Bruce Highway to the Deception Bay Road interchange. A detour map is attached for your information.

North Lakes Man Assaulted in Burglary

Detectives are investigating a burglary in which a man was assaulted in a house at North Lakes early this morning.

Around 2.40am two men broke into the Brooklyn Close property before being confronted by a male occupant who armed himself with a baton.

One of the men ran away while a struggled ensued between the other man and the occupant. During the struggle, the occupant was struck in the head with the baton before the man fled the scene.

Two wallets and other personal items were stolen during the incident.
