Science in the Park Festival North Lakes

Kids, get ready for the Science in the Park Festival at Lake Eden Town Park, North Lakes on Saturday 18th October 2014. This is going to be a fun family day out filled with freaky fun science.

The Corso was officially opened by Mayor Allan Sutherland on Friday 12 September 2014.   An open day was held on Saturday 13 September where more than 2,000 people explored the new destination library, community centre, meeting rooms and more. If you haven’t checked it out already, I urge residents to go along and experience everything the Corso has to offer.

Local Rail Project Lights Way For Helping Childhood Cancer

Murrumba Downs and Mango Hill has been connected with a ‘bridge of light’ spanning the Bruce Highway from last night for one week. (Monday 22 September)

Member for Kallangur, Trevor Ruthenberg and Member for Murrumba, Reg Gulley have requested that the new Moreton Bay Rail Link Bridge be lit up in support of childhood cancer.

Mr Ruthenberg said that the newly constructed landmark would be lit as part of the “Go Gold” worldwide grassroots childhood cancer awareness campaign.

Beefy's Gluten Free Pie Strikes Gold

Beefy’s Gluten Free meat pie has won Gold at the 2014 Great Aussie Pie Competition in Melbourne this week.

The local family owned Pie Chain has added another accolade to their ‘wall of fame’.

Local Pastry chef and owner of Beefy’s Mark Hobbs said, “Winning this award confirms the overwhelming feedback that we have received since launching our gluten free pie earlier this year. We were determined to create a gluten free pie on the same pinnacle as other award winning meat pies.”

Cashmere - Warra Lane, business just after midnight September 17, smashed front glass door panel, nil stolen.

Kallangur – Beerwah Pde, September 13 – 14, jumped a fence, cut fly screen to rear sliding door then smashed sliding door, watch taken.

Peak Water Pricing Opposed by MBRC

Moreton Bay Regional Council will write to the Queensland Competition Authority to oppose the authority’s suggestion of time-of-day or seasonal peak pricing for water consumption.

Mayor Allan Sutherland said the QCA’s suggestion was nonsense and would drive water prices up.

“I am completely dumbfounded by this obscene suggestion by the Queensland Competition Authority when Moreton Bay Region families are already paying what many believe are exorbitant prices for water,” Mayor Sutherland told council’s Coordination Committee meeting on Tuesday.

“Families will be particularly penalised by time-of-day pricing for water – it simply won’t wash.

The past two weeks have been a challenging time for our family. We have lost everything in our house fire. However during this time of adversity and darkness, we have come to see the light that has shone through in people like you in our wonderful North Lakes, Mango Hill community. Night Work - Freshwater Creek Road Bridge, Mango Hill

From Wednesday 24 September to Friday 26 September, night work to deliver and install bridge beams will occur at the Freshwater Creek Road bridge site at Mango Hill.

This work will occur from 6:30pm to 6:30am each night, weather permitting. What to expect:

  • Delivering large bridge beams  
  • Using heavy machinery including oversized trucks and cranes
  • Using elevated work platforms
  • Installing over 30 bridge beams
  • Using mobile lighting towers  

Access for motorists travelling along Freshwater Creek Road will be maintained, some minor delays can be expected.

Anzac Ave Road Works About to Commence

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) would like to advise that works are about to commence on the Anzac Avenue southbound on-ramp to the Bruce Highway as part of the Bruce Highway Managed Motorway Project.

The Bruce Highway Managed Motorway Project will maximise the existing capacity of the Bruce Highway, especially during high demand periods, by keeping traffic flowing. This project involves installing ramp signals on five southbound on-ramps to the Bruce Highway, including Uhlmann Road, Deception Bay Road, Boundary Road, Anzac Avenue and Dohles Rocks Road.
