Locals Prepare for Celebrations on National Skatepark Day

The popularity of scooters, skateboards and BMX bikes has boomed in recent times and there’s no denying that our local skatepark has become a buzzing hub of active recreation in the community. In recognition of this and to show support for local riders and skaters, The Space North Lakes has signed up to be part of 2014 National Skatepark Day.

iPlay Sports Raising $5,000 for the Leukaemia Foundation

iPlay Sports located in the North Lakes Business Park has a goal to raise $5,000 from launching the new 24 Hour Gym as well as starting the new summer season on indoor sports for the Leukaemia Foundation. 

They have been open now for three months running Indoor Netball, Indoor Soccer and Dodge Ball evening leagues.  100 teams have taken part in the first season with the 2nd season commencing 22nd September.

Mango Hill Rail Construction Update

Construction activity in Mango Hill is progressing and throughout late August and into September you will see the following activities occur between the Bruce Highway and Kinsellas Road.

Freshwater Creek Road bridge

In late August, excavation underneath the road bridge will begin. The excavation will take two weeks to complete and will reach a depth of 10 metres. Tension anchors, bolts and ‘soil nail’ work will continue on the northern and southern sides of the bridge and behind Grace Court, to retain the sides of the excavation. Some noise and dust will be associated with this activity.

Night Works Boundary Road Southbound On-Ramp

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) would like to advise night works will be undertaken and temporary traffic changes southbound will be in place on the Bruce Highway at the Boundary Road on-ramp. Works will occur from 27 to 30 August 2014 between 7pm and 4am, weather permitting.

The works are part of the Bruce Highway Managed Motorway Project and involve placing traffic control barriers in preparation for on-ramp widening works.  

Activities include:

  • temporarily closing up to 1km of the southbound lane of the Bruce Highway near the Boundary Road interchange

Aug 21, 2014 had the opportunity to exclusively interview Premier Campbell Newman and MP Reg Gulley on Tuesday 19 August 2014 on issues raised by the North Lakes and surrounding areas community.  Common issues that were raised were the Boundary Road congestion, public hospital job cuts, local schooling, public transport costs, changes to the Community Support Programme, sporting club facilities, small business red tape with employing school leavers, school based police officer and consumer confidence. Countdown to The Corso Opening Begins

Twenty two months of earthworks, steel reinforcement, concrete pouring and architectural glazing have been completed with the internal fit out of Moreton Bay Regional Council’s $45 million The Corso at North Lakes now underway ahead of September’s official opening.

North Lakes Koala Rescued

A big THANK YOU goes to the Pine Rivers Koala and Wildlife Rescue team and also a local resident for saving one of our Koalas in North Lakes.

A concerned resident called the Pine Rivers Koala and Wildlife Rescue recently regarding this little fellow. He was found beside a busy road in North Lakes and after a short stay at the Moggill Koala Hospital the rescue team released him back to his place of residency, North Lakes on Sunday 17 August.

Hopefully he will live a safe life where he belongs.
