Splendid Exposure for Moreton Bay Bands
22/07/2010
-
The judges’ splendid verdicts are in!
Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor, Allan Sutherland, today announced the three local bands to represent the Moreton Bay region at Australia’s premier music festival - Splendour in the Grass - later this month in Woodford.
The winning bands are:
•The Honey Month - Folk/Indie/Psychedelic
•The Outlook with Mr Boinkin - Hip Hop/Electronica
•RVLR - Alternative Rock/Pop
“Congratulations to the winners - they represent the cream of this region’s up and coming music talent and they deserve the exposure that Splendour in the Grass will bring,” Mayor Sutherland said.
“It was a tough judging gig with around 100 bands staking their claim on one of three stage slots that Splendour’s organisers made available for a truly loud, live and local flavour at Woodford in 2010.
“On behalf of all the local bands that entered, I want to thank the organisers of Splendour for making it possible.”
Liam Eaton from Kallangur, the 19 year old drummer of The Honey Month, said the band was in the studio recording their debut EP when they got the news they’d be playing Splendour.
“We’re all really excited here, nobody believed it when the phone call came and I think we’re all still coming to terms with it,” Liam said.
“We’ve been recording and the songs have evolved so much since we started recording, and this is a chance to take them to fresh ears.”
All five members of The Honey Month live in the Moreton Bay region and will be performing in the McLennan Tent.
Hip Hop - electronica outfit, The Outlook with Mr Boinkin, will play their set in the Mix It Up Tent, with RVLR booked for a coveted slot at Splendour’s prestigious Main Amphitheatre.
RVLR drummer, Adrian Dickinson from Bray Park, said Splendour in the Grass would be the perfect stage to showcase the band’s new song ‘All Right’.
“It’s an up beat rock song that will get people dancing,” Adrian said.
“This is massive - it doesn’t get much bigger, it's a huge opportunity for us to make some moves in the industry and an opportunity that doesn’t come around every day.
“We’re hoping Splendour will get us some radio exposure, particularly on Triple J, and perhaps get on a tour with one of the big bands on the bill. To get exposed and get recognised would be fantastic.”
Mayor Allan Sutherland said all the ingredients were in place for the best Splendour in the Grass ever at Woodford, from July 30 to August 1.
“Moreton Bay Regional Council and the Queensland Government have pulled out all stops to find Splendour in the Grass a new home at the Woodfordia site,” the Mayor said.
“We’ve worked in partnership with Premier Anna Bligh to put in place the infrastructure needed to bring Splendour north and I’m confident it will cement Woodford’s reputation as one of the nation’s best festival venues.\
“And if you’re lucky enough to have secured tickets for Splendour, consider it your duty to support our live and local bands.”
