Hello,

y family and I are moving from Uk to Brisbane in November, we are building a house on North Lakes but will need short term & long term accomodation on North Lakes whilst we wait for the build to complete (could be anything from 6 months to 10 Months I guess)

Can anyone help please/give advice... there are 2 adults & 2 children in our family - no pets.

Thanks in advance

Hi Kris

We moved from UK at end August and had great difficulty trying to arrange a rental from the UK - some agents would not help us at all.  We would recommend contacting Teresa at Spectra Realty, email address teresa@spectrarealty.com.au, phone no. 07 3491 8344.  Their office is based at North Lakes and she was very helpful and found us a rental property on North Lakes on a short term let of 3 months.  The house we are renting is 3 beds and fine for our family of 4 to start with.   Our lease is until end Nov so it may even be worth enquiring about a short term let for that if you would be interested.  Also on North Lakes you have Harcourts and Ray White so they may be able to help too.

Hope this helps

Louise

Many thanks for that Louise, much appreciated, I will give them a try. That would be great if we could takeup your rental at the end of November, that would be good timing, although we do need something from approx 16th Nov, although we could always get a hotel in the meantime!

Enquired with Harcourts already, they can't do anything until we arrive but they were helpful in sending me copies of tenancy applications so we could be prepared.

Once again, thank you so much for your help

Hi
We are staying at a motel at the moment in Kippa Ring (about 10 mins drive to North Lakes).  We are still waiting for our furniture to arrive so cannot move into our rental until that is delivered (has taken longer than we were told!).  It's The Kippa Ring Motel on Elizabeth Avenue and is equipped with washing machine, bedding, etc so is fine for when you first arrive.  There is a shopping centre about 5 mins away also. Their web site is www.kipparingvillagemotel.com.au

We were told by lots of agents to fill out forms for each rental we were interested in but Teresa found us a property and we scanned through our ID and emailed back forms and she was extremely helpful.  We have paid our 3 months rent in advance as we did not have any references as we've not rented in the past so you may need to do the same to secure somewhere.  We did a credit reference ourselves with  Experian which shows all our credit history and Teresa was satisfied that this was acceptable for scoring the points.

Also, being in Kippa Ring you will find the Queensland Transport Dept to change your Driving Licences, Medicare office to register, and all the various banks are in this area.

Hope this helps.

Fantastic thanks so much for your help Louise! Is a Motel more or less like a hotel but with extra facilities?

What a nigthmare about your furniture, how long have you been waiting for it? We are not shiiping any furniture over, just our clothes! All our furniture was ready for selling when we sold our house.

We have a 2 bed self-contained unit which is like a chalet I suppose.  There's kitchen/diner/living area, shower room, utility room (with washing machine) and car port beside. There's a laundry on site with tumble drier and ironing facilities.  We are provided with bedding, tea/coffee, soap, shampoo etc.  Quite expensive but cheapest one we could find from internet.

Our furniture left UK mid June and we were told by Arrowpak it would take 6-8 weeks and sometimes takes 10 days to go through customs.  We thought we had allowed plenty of time so are not happy with Arrowpak at all.  The company they use here do not communicate at all either so it's been very frustrating.  We've managed to borrow some furniture from some friends to get us by until it arrives, but probably won't be til late next week now.  Not at good start .

That sounds ideal as a temporary measure. I have looked on the website and  the rates are a little higher than i'd expected (there's 4 of us) so hopefully if we do have to stop in one of these, it won't be for too long!

I hope your furniture arrives soon, it must be pretty stressful for you. I'll keep my fingers crossed from you!

i think we are in same position as you Louise, and i know me and Kris have  posted on this subject. I believe it is a requirement of Queensland that you or someone views the property before it is let which is a problem when coming from another country. i was very interested in the motel info as we are going to need some where when we first arrive so will have a look at the site. It is so difficult on top of everything else isn't it!      I'm having trouble finding one way insurance for our flight at the moment - we arrive on 12' October. I just wish we were there now and could put all this hassle behind us. I'm not so stupid as to think there won't be problems when we arrive but at least we will be in the country then.Good luck to you both and i hope you get sorted soon, when do you arrive, Kris and when do you get moved in ,Louise?

Hi

This might not work in with your timescale but my family and i currently rent a 4 bedroom house in NL and we will be vacting it around the 20th October. We are breaking the lease which isn't due to expire until July 2009. Rent is $370/wk but it sounds like you will arrive too late here as rentals tend to get snapped up pretty quick. However if you are interested drop me a line at krp170173@bigpond.com
