Hi, We moved to NL in May this year. From May to September i have seen 7 houses for sale just on my street alone, let alone the hundreds of signs we see each day covering the streets and roundabouts. I just cant believe it and do not have any understanding as to why so many people move out of NL.

If anyone could reply with their opinion i would really appreciate it.

Thanks

Wade

I am no real estate expert but from what I've heard many people build (or just buy) houses in new developments like North Lakes as short-term investments. You therefore get streets full of houses only a few years old and nobody living in them who actually built them.

We, on the other hand, built our house with the intention of spending 20-odd years in it. Maybe even longer.

HYmmm.... we also built our house with the intention of staying there forever, or at least for quite a few years.... BUT right now, the thing that is making me look at real estate elsewhere.... is our local school.

What Mr Pennypacker has said though, is the most logical reasoning... build new, make a quick buck, move onto the next project.

I think people also sell and move to other parts of North Lakes. They either build again or do an existing house up. What is wrong with the school Looby?

Lots of things wrong with the management of the school, and I have really tried hard to give them the benefit of the doubt, given they are only in their second year of operation. But I'll go with what Lucy Loo's friends have said... DISAPPOINTED. I don't know a single person who is happy with the school.

I'd love to know just how many children have been pulled out to be home-schooled or moved into private schools, or have resorted to move out of the community to get their children a decent education, since the school opened last year (I personally know 3 families who have specifically moved away, in order to move to a better school, and another 4 families who have stayed in the area, but have switched to private schooling!).

Looby, you may never know how many children have left the school for this very reason, its growing area, which means new families are moving into the area all the time, out of say three kids leaving they will have nine kids starting, so the management of the school or the education dept will not be interested in your reasons, as they will still get the numbers. my friend tried several attempts to talk to the school but got little or no satisfaction.

For the original question I would say the main reason you are seeing so many forsale signs is because of short term investors and any new area will experience a high rate of sales as people find they don't actually like the area as much as they thought they would.

I personally love North Lakes, it's one of the nicest areas I have lived in but we are leaving as well.. The school is 90% of the reason the family are leaving so soon. We have made our feelings about the school known to the school and the local and national educational boards.

They don't seem to want to fix the problem and my kids aren't going to continue to be their guinea pigs until they figure out how to run a primary school

Hi,

I am moving to north Lakes in November with my husband and daughter and am looking at enrolling her in Bounty Boulevard School. I like that the school is only small opposed to North Lake State College.

i would really appreciate if you were more specific on exactly what you haven't been happy with at Bounty Boulevard. I am moving from Canberra so i have been doing all my research on line and as you can imagine i am little nervous about the move.

Thanks

Hi kpg,

My main problems with the school revolved around slack day to day administration, inability to stick to previously accepted agreements and not being able to handle a suitable education to either of my children.

I don't really want to sit here and go into specifics that will hang around the schools name forever as they will hopefully pull up their socks and resolve their issues but if you want more detail you are more than welcome to drop me an email gavin@lazygamer.net

I have to second the opinions expressed by Lazygamer. The school needs to pull its socks up. My daughter has one more term and is then off to high school. My younger daughter is still a few years away from Prep, so I hope the school improves by then...

we love it here and have no intention of moving out.....sure there are problems but then name me one suburb that doesnt!

as for the school, our child is starting prep next year and after looking around we settled on st benedicts at mango hill. we did look at BB and also NLSC as well as TLC but decided that this was the best option for our family. the school in growing, the principal was fantastic on the day and all the staff and pupils made us feel very welcome on the interview day.

Re: Bounty Blvd School, to be quite honest its crap compared to any other school. My child attented for last year and half of this year, once starting at her new school she learnt more in the first 3 weeks then she did for 1.5 years at BB school. I was amazed at the amount of work my 7 year old is doing at the new school compared to BB school. The amount of times I went to the school early to have a sneek peek in the class room I was horrified. Absolute madness, kids running around, flinging elastic bands, throwing paper planes, no control at all, a year 1 class that was still playing with lego and just doing "free drawing" while the teacher sat at the desk and took no notice of any kids. My child hardly ever got homework and was only doing numbers 1-10, at the new school I was shown work from year 1 and prep, my child never did prep work last year that should have been done. I have rung the education dept and after the run around and several phone calls with some people saying that they have never heard of the school or didnt know it exsisted I was told that there was nothing they could do which I find a little hard to beleive. If you are thinking of placing your child at BB school I would think long and hard about it. Do you want them to strive for the best they can be or just get a basic feel for an education, if it is the later then go ahead and enrol them there.

My daughters have now started in their new school after being at BB for nearly 2 years and apparently they are about a year behind when it comes to Maths, English and other hard studies...

Now I need to explain to my daughter why she may have to repeat grade 2 thanks to the awful education she received at Bounty..

Oh and I have already laid a formal complaint with the board of education.. actually 2 of them but the response I got was pretty similar to what you got.. they don't seem to give a damn

@ Lazygamer, the part that I am angry about is the so called "free education" my childs class was treated like a day care centre and now we have to pay big bucks for private education simply because the education department doesnt care. Its a brand new school they should have it together. One problem I see is that the majority of teachers at BB are brand new or only out of college for a year or so and with only a few older teachers there. In my view that is not the way you plan a school. You do the complete opposite, have mostly older teachers with a few young ones. Seems the principle there doesnt give too much support to teachers, if you complain about something and ask them to fix the problem their response is "yes, sure" but its not followed through. They dont inform parents about problems or incidents that happen there, they try to cover them up and have a million excuses as to why you werent informed or why it wasnt delt with. There are not too many things in the world that I "hate" but I can say that I "hate" that school. I hope your children can pick up things quickly and it doesnt affect them too much, all I am grateful for is that our child is young enough, I am glad its grade 1 and not grade 5 or 6. We are doing alot of extra work with our child to get them up to the level they should be. Shame on you Bounty Blvd State School, shame, shame, shame, (haha, sounds like Derryn Hinch)

Yeah the amount of times we felt we were being lied to by the school was amazing. I generally trust people but we got to the point where we couldn't believe a word being said out of the admin team.

Thankfully the kids are also still young and they will catch but it's incredibly frustrating and yes my wife also hates that school. One of the only things she hates as well.

The last thing I heard from that school was that one of the prep moms actually called the police on the other students in the class as the school refused to do anything about the constant bullying that was going on.. needless to say the school decided to get the police to remove her from the premises and officially warn her instead of sorting out the bullying..

Classic case of a mother blowing her top

Lazygamer, Yes, sounds about right. So much bullying going on there. So many feral kids with no respect for anyone else or anything for that matter. All comes down to the feral parents really.
Hate is a big word for me and not used very often at all. Sounds like your wife and I have a bit in common. I'm new to this site and was wondering if you can private message anyone ?

I now know exactly why my 6 year old can't write beyond 5 sentences, spell simple words like 'because' won't multiply in 20's and don't get me started on the language he uses....lol
It must be the bad education he is getting from the school and the exposure to those feral parents and their children...geez I better get him out NOW. lmao

Glad to hear you find a bad education funny ...

If you are happy with the school then by all means stay, it has some beautiful grounds and equipment and has tons of potential.. I'd rather my kdis not be the guinea pigs though while it figures out how to get the basics right

@ Wheeler Dealer: I didnt say you were all Feral

@ uwish: Put yourself in someone elses shoes for once, how would you feel if this was happening to your family and you must have one of the few good teachers there. If you had taken the time to read my post prperly you would have understood about the lack of education that is happening in at least ONE class. My child is 7 so obviously does not have the same teacher as your child and your child being only 5 would be in Prep, lets see what next year brings for your child, for your sake I hope you dont get a lazy half minded teacher.
