I just read with interest an article in the rants and raves about a Police Officer accusing someone of using their mobile and asking for $100 cash to make the problem go away. Firstly this is disgusting as I'm confident this is not normal at all. Secondly it's disturbing as I heard of a similar incident here in North Lakes about two years ago.

This particular incident was with a young guy who was speeding in Bridgehaven and was pulled over by a police officer in an unmarked Toyota Aurion. He only had one point left on his license and the officer asked for his wallet, looked inside and noticed a large sum of cash, took the money telling the guy the matter was now dealt with. At the time the guy did not report the matter fearing that he would lose his license.

I raised this issue with the local inspector (who appeared shocked by the story) but as far as I know the matter was never followed through.

I'd be keen to hear about similar stories to this as there appears to be a rogue officer out there giving others a bad name.

Hi Scott , no theres no rogue cop out there as this is a standard practice among them , I myself a victim to this low tactic some years back and have heard of a case just 2 months ago on Endeavour Blvd where a cop on a bike was hidden behind the tress just after the Nursing Home when he stopped a young girl P plater and asked for cash .
Wether its a true account of what happened I can not say as was told this second hand .
Regarding you reporting it to the top cop , nothing would have been done and was probably surprised as he had not got a cut of it .
Since I was stitched up I will not talk to a cop unless in the presence of another person , you just need to look at the news daily and quite often you get to see another crooked cop caught out but for every crooked one caught theres plenty more out there .

Aero, sounds like you not only have bitten into a big bunch of sour grapes but also have half a forest on your shoulder?!?!?!?! You make statements that are obviously untrue and designed to slander, "standard practice", "nothing would have been done and was probably surprised as he had not got a cut of it", not to forget "you just need to look at the news daily and quite often you get to see another crooked cop caught out".

So where exactly are all these daily examples of crooked cops getting caught? Where is your proof of any of your claims? Surely if all the cops practice bribery as standard behaviour etc there would be hundreds if not thousands of people saying so?!?!?!?!?!

As I said sour grapes and half a forest. Just like the claims of those who have been caught breaking the law.

I wouldn't want people to think this is normal. My interactions with any of the local police have all been positive and professional.

I might also add that I have been through more RBTs in North Lakes over the past 12 months than in the last 12 years anywhere else on the roads. It's a good thing.

Claymore 73 , Sorry you are upset by my comments , but I was innocent and when it went to court my case wasthrown out for reason of the judge woulld not accept one mans word against another and some of the officers statementsl misleading.I paid him what he wanted as I wanted no criminal convictions as I was to join an organisation that did not allow any convictions .
There were others in the town treated the same way but had our revenge at the Wood Inquiry when that officer and his CO were imprisioned for Bribery , Corruption, and Perverting the course of Justice .
I hope it never happens to you.

Aero, Your particular case is not the only thing you made statements about in your initial comment. I accept that what you say about your case is what happened, I have no reason to think otherwise. The point I was making was that you should not make obviously incorrect and derogatory sweeping statements as you did. All coppers are not like that; as you stated they are.

Aero,
Why don't you purchase a digital recorder if you are concerned about 'rogue' cops. You can then record every conversation that you have with them. I am sure that this will keep them on their toes.
A s for the 'P' plater that was asked for cash to make a ticket go away, you obviously know either her or someone that does so why dont you convince her to report it to whoever is in charge at the north lakes station. Tell her to record the conversation and then if nothing is done she can give the recording to the CMC. I highly doubt that this will ever happen as to me it just sounds like a 'good story' used to spice up a forum page.
I have had nothing but pleasant dealings with the local police. Your claim that it is 'standard practice' is ridiculous.
There is a rogue surgeon going around, you may have heard of him (Jayant PATEL). Does this mean you now think all surgeons are rogues.....of course not!
Just because you unfortunately had 1 bad experience it does not mean they are all rogues.
Your massive generalisation is ludicrous.
Oh well, that is my 2 cents worth.
Take care.
