Telstra 3G in Northlakes (HSDPA and only 300m from the tower). You too can have this amazing speed and a whole 6GB of data for only $100 a month. |

Mate, don't put that beautiful internet at risk by moving just yet! My ADSL2+ in Bridgehaven is still very slow although I pay for ADSL2+, it is actually ADSL. Not to mention all my mobile conversations have to take place in the front yard as inside the house I get NO reception. Thanks Telstra, OPTUS, VODACOM, TPG and all those other communications networks for failing to tap into this market (gold pot). |

Steve, it might be worth considering picking up a GSM booster. It's a little unit which you can install inside or outside which acts as like a repeater for GSM, HSDPA signal. I installed one for a client once who was living out in the sticks where they were getting 1 bar with Telstra mobile. After installation, they had full signal strength and considerably faster HSDPA speeds. It's worth a try? Cause those speeds are dreadful. Speaking of dialup speeds, I remember back in the day when there was no such thing as broadband. The fastest thing available to the consumer without paying the world was 56k dialup. My best investment was a bonding modem, which took two phone lines and two internet connections and combined them in to one connection, 112K YEAH! |

My advice is submit to the mighty Telstra in the newer areas of North Lakes. You will get a great connection speed (unless you just downloaded your 12Gb in two weeks and you connection is now shaped) ... **sigh**. I'm running off the NextG connection at the moment. It has a better antenna fitted plus our spot in Fairway Chase has near line of sight to the Telstra mobile tower. |

Just moved into Fairway Chase. Getting ADSL1 through Exetel. Good deals and so far so good. Preferred TPG for prices. In terms of my down line speed here at North Lakes with Exetel, I don't really notice the difference between this and my last ADSL2+ with TPG over at Rothwell. My family are heavy users too I suppose with three teenage boys into streaming and gaming etc. Just for some info, I wrote to TPG asking of the problem and anything that might happen on the ADSL2 front here at North Lakes. TPG wrote to me saying: "Yes, I was able to access the number on the Telstra's database and you're connected to a RIM. Thank you for the info, TPG is currently doing roll out in some exchanges to provide customers an ADSL2+ service and hopefully Kallangur sub exchange will be included on the list soon. Regards, Jay B" A separate response from TPG – "There is a possibility that TPG can build ADSL2+ infrastructure on your premise. However no timeframe can be be given as this involves time and big funds. Kind Regards, Mina" Usually I get around 6 - 6.9ish from Exetel. I am certainly no expert but it seems okay. I pay $75.00 a month for 30GB peak (12 noon - 12 mn) and unlimited off peak (12mn - 12noon - I think)But you can buy excess data and are not shaped. Data only costs are 50 cents/gb. Of course there are other plans too. TPG shapes you and this was not suitable for me hence why I went for Exetel. |

I was wondering whether anybody else with BigPond Wireless Next G has experienced really poor performance over the last 3 weeks with constant outages? The case has escalated to 'Level 3' tech support but no one at Big Pond can explain what the problem is. Also, while we're on the subject of mysteries..anybody have any idea why Speedtest http://www.speedtest.net/ thinks I'm less than 50 miles from Perth? Paula Woodside (near Perth apparently...) |

Yes, I'm on 3G and I've noticed more dropouts (and timeouts) over the past week or so. I think it's unfair of you to imply that Telstra / Big Pond don't know what the problem is though. I'm sure they know exactly what the cause is, it's just that your business means nothing to them. They're the only provider in North Lakes and they know it, so they can treat you like dirt and you just have to take it. |

The broadband debacle in North Lakes is a disgrace! How could Stockland be allowed to go ahead with this development with broadband basically being non-existed! I put my house on the market to move to a place where I can get broadband! This is quoted in the Northern Times of April 23, 2010: ‘Many in the suburb cannot get broadband because of wiring techniques used – pair gaining and use of a Remote Integrated Multiplexer – making broadband access difficult.’ Well, my speed has dropped considerably the last couple of months and I pay for ADSL2+ but is slower than a dial up connection! My advise to prospect buyers, go buy somewhere else as you are not going to get descend broadband soon in this place. |

I use Telstra's 3G for my work and have to sit literally outside to get just a signal. Not to mention it drops out more than it is working! My ADSL Landline through TPG is slower than dial up connection! Thanks Stockland for this development that is not even meeting basic communication requirements! |

Got the GSM booster installed, the problem is the wiring techniques used for Bridgehaven and most older suburbs in North Lakes: http://www.speedtest.net/result/792366403.png <img src='http://www.speedtest.net/result/792366403.png' /> |

I had heaps of problems with NextG internet last week. I get 5 bars of reception but it was all over the place. I suspect the tower was just getting overloaded The Telstra ADSL2 on the other hand is fantastic. I was just getting the maximum line speed download of 2000 kb/sec downloading 60mb of software from Canon's web site. I would really suggest looking at some of Telstra's new bundle deals. |

I doubt anyone in Northlakes uses 3-crappy-G by choice :-\ We are forced to use it because we can't get any sort of ADSL (let alone ADSL 2). This situation (Telstra providing super crap service because they are a monopoly) was exactly why Optus was created. Here in Northlakes though it's like we're living in the 80s because there is no competition. Until the Helstra monopoly is broken getting decent Internet will always be a problem in Northlakes. |

Official response from TPG 27 April 2010 - note I pay for ADSL2+ and this cannot change as I already subscribed for ADSL2+ that I specifically requested, I even got an e-mail from TPG indicating we are going to upgrade you to ADSL2+ speed only to be told the next day, sorry impossible - what a joke, my mum in Africa has better speed then I do and pay far less: TPG response: "Please be advised that we have identified that Telstra is presently unable to provide the ADSL2+ service to your phone line "number deleted" as your telephone line is configured in such a way that it is incompatible with ADSL2+ Services. The telephone line connected at your premises is on what's called a "Pair Gain" system. This means that your telephone service is sharing copper wire between your premises and local telephone exchange with another telephone number. While a "Pair Gain" system is perfectly adequate for normal voice transmission of telephone conversations, it will not allow the full output of data via an ADSL2+ Connection." Future buyers, go look somewhere els as my speed is constant dropping lower and lower and note my Telstra Next G for work is more dropping out and forcing me to work in the front garden with only 1 bar! What a joke!!!! Not to mention I hardly get a bar as a signal on my mobile, making my iPhone useless at home! Thanks Telstra for below average service, may be one of the service providers in Africa should be allowed to come and provide us a service in North Lakes as they are doing this in remote areas in Africa at much cheaper prices and far faster speeds! |

YES! ADSL is still a problem in North Lakes for many. Check you street sub-exchange (RIM) capacity here: http://telstrawholesale.com/products/data/adsl-reports-plans.htm Many RIMs are simple not enabled with ADSL2+ ports, and even ADSL capacity has zero available ports at many locations. What a joke! A couple of plans/providers worth considering: FAST ADSL on Telstra port (up to 8 mbit) from $30 month: http://www.aanet.com.au/8000plans.html ADSL2+ on Telstra port (up to 20 mbit) from $50 month: http://www.internode.on.net/residential/broadband/adsl/easy_broadband/ I hope that helps. |

And the government is going to withdraw (I hope only for or them to put on hold) the role out of the national broadband service! There goes any hope of fast broadband for North Lakes. Any idea how the speed is at Springfield Lake, may be a move is the best solution, it is anyway getting to crowded now in North Lakes? My speed is anyway dropping monthly as more houses come online. |

Just for all those people out there in North Lakes who can not get internet my suggest would be this. Get a prepaid wireless 3g network device and go onto www.internode.com.au and sign up. This is what i did 2 months ago and i go rejected 2 months ago and they have this awesome feature where you click one button and boom you apply again and they go through it all again. It took me 2 months to get internet here and now i am so greatful to get it. I really do feel for those who can not get it. Seriously thoe find a isp who does adsl with a 1 button reapply feature i am now on internodes plan where its $79 a month for 50 gig i know its not as much as adsl2+ but really its way better then 3g.... |

I live in Mango Hill and I'm sick of not being able to get ADSL+2. If you're realy serious about fixing this problem, then everyone that reads this should go to: http://www.gopetition.com.au/petitions/adsl-broadband-north-lakes-murrumba-downs.htmlsign-up and put some pressure on the local government.
