Hi all,
I have recently moved to North Lakes from Melbourne with my hubby and 1 year old daughter..  Since we are not too sure if we will stay in Brisbane for more than a year or two, I really want to get out and see parts of south east queensland whilst we are up here.    Does anyone have suggestions for daytrips that we can do on weekends?  

I found a coupon for Alma Park Zoo  that gives adult entry at children's prices during Jan.   Is Alma Park Zoo worth a visit?

Do you have a 4WD or access to one?

There are some great day trips you can do.

I haven't been to Alma Park although I hear it's good. We've been to Australia Zoo which was fantastic.

There's also Maleny, Mapleton and all sorts of craft stores and lolly outlets ...

I would love to go to Australia Zoo.. And we will prob do a day trip to the sunshine coast.

What is in Maleny and Mapleton? And where are the lolly outlets???

If you and the kids are up for a drive have a look into the Montville Markets and the Eumundi Markets, both are weekend events and a bit of a drive but it took us a morning to get to Montville and have a look around on the way to our Rainbow Beach holiday. There's HEAPS of little shops up there that have books, handmade chocolates, hemp clothing (not for smoking *jks) and a large range of all other little nick-nacks etc. The view is spectacular and if you take a packed lunch make sure you go for a drive to the dam up behind the shops, it's about 5 mins away and a perfect spot for a family picnic.

Eumundi Markets is up near the Sunshine Coast too and is also a fantastic place for the family to go. If you find their website they have glas blowing and fresh bakery sales advertised as well as a large number of different stalls.

Yes, Angelfire has recommended some fantastic family outings. The Montville markets (as well as Eumundi one) is nice... Driving to Hervey Bay and Rainbow Beach/Tin Can Bay is a nice getaway but I'd suggest leaving early in the morning to avoid heavy traffic. Take a nice packed lunch and wear a hat and sunscreen hehehe!

We too have young kids and the best outing we have had recently would have be a cruise around moreton bay and up the Brisabne river with Getaway Cruising in Manly. The food, service and information offered was excellent and I would recommend this to anyone. They even offer free boom net rides if you want to brave the sea at this time of the year!!
