Hi all, just moved to NL, must say that the family and I are loving it, very friendly people here.

A quick a note on the forum to obtain expressions of interest for anyone interested in starting up a football team. At this stage it is early days in terms of logistics and details but after getting or not getting responses I/we can investigate further. The season starts post Xmas but a bit of forward planning never hurt anyone.

I’m led to believe that there are a few Brits at NL, a bit of a generalisation but they can kick the ball around, at this stage it will be senior football, hopefully in a local league with a mixture of ages and skills, hopefully with a couple of beers after the game………. Partners permission of course!

Cheers

Matthew

Hi Matthew,

Yes, we are a friendly bunch, well I think so anyway :-) Football , aka Soccer - there is a club already started here in North Lakes - I think it is mainly for the younger players. You can contact Scott on 0403 356 129. Harcourts North Lakes Mango Hill (Real Estate) and Discovery Baptist (local church) support the club.

We will be creating a page on the site for them in the next few weeks - I'm flat out at the moment with requests from businesses so it will happen soon.

I'm starting to think that the Poms and New Zealanders are starting to out number us ! The owners of Harcourts North Lakes are are from New Zealand - nice guys as well :-) I spoke with another real estate agent today who will feature on our site soon and he is from the UK ...

The idea of an older soccer group is a great - I'm sure you can get some interest for it.

Regards

I'd be interested in playing senior football (round ball game, world game!). It would just depend on the day/time. If anyone arranges this please let me know... I'm not sure how much time I could put into organisation, but I'll help as much as I can.
Oh, and I'm originally from the UK... but I've been an Aussie for a long time...and watched Socceroo games in preference to Rooney & Co..

Another true Brit here who would be interested in a kick around with a few others who appreciate the real game of football. Just got here 4 weeks ago so need to get in touch with a few other like minded footie fans (instead of the egg chuckers!).

Could someone also send me some details on the youth football team as I am interested in getting involved and have completed an FA coaching course in England. Also I have just started some temp work at the gaming commision and may be able to help with grants for equipment and anything that would be of use.

Hi Phil,

I play at Redcliffe PCYC in the over 35s competition (not far away). So if you are over 35 (or 32+ as long as the team doesn't have more than 3 under 35s) you can play. My team (Rawhide!) still needs players. Friday nights. Redcliffe Showgrounds. Quite a few of the players coach local youth sides...

See www.over35soccerpcyc.com anyway because our site has links to various other football organisations in QLD.

Hope this helps

Hi is there any reason that a group can not get together for a kick around on a Sunday afternoon, like the old days...jumpers for goal posts etc, had a group in the Uk did it that led to a real team etc it was good expercise and fun.....just a thought!

Yeah mate i am keen for a kick around, as are alot of the younger boys... why dont we play, young vs old games... like under 20 vs over 20... if north lakes is about community then they should support this idea

I will always be up for a kick around. I am not particularly young, fit or good but love a game. Miss playing for the pub team on a Sunday! I looked at the website for the over 35's league and there is not slide tackling, well that is just not cricket!

I am the same unfit, talentless but love a good run a round!

Maybe time to pick a venue - start time and see who turns up.

Hi.  I'm up for a good old fashion kick around. We have only just moved to the area and would like to meet a few people and maybe accidently get a little fitter  at the the same time.

I have a ball and a jersey.
I don't know if there is anything on at the fields behind the new Sesame Day Care on Discovery drive. But my suggested location is there at about 1 - 1:30pm this Sunday 8 July.

Unless anyone can tell that something is on there at that time and date, I will be there. I'll be the one in the Chelsea shirt. ( I'm a kiwi, but I support them when I spent time in the UK)
So it looks like all we need are some more jerseys, anyone interested??

I have 3 kids  (aged 4 - 6)  that also like kicking a ball around, so if you have them, bring them along and and we could sort out a little game for them!

If you could add a comment here to let me and others know who may be turning up that would great.

Cheers

Well it was a great afternoon on sunday, july 8, we had a great kick around. Shame it was only with my family.
Would still like to have a kick around with some other locals, so if you would like to meet somewhere and do this, please add a reply here and I hope we can put this together.

Look forward to reading the replies Cheers

I'm interested in joining up for a social kick about team... though I am little older and slower than the 21 year olds ;)

I read something a while back about a Wednesday night kick about but I think they canned it for Winter even though it isn't cold?

hi  Donna,

just wondering how your son is getting along? Our son is 19 and feeling a bit low because we've just moved from UK and he's missing his friends, girlfriend etc. I think it is harder for this age group than younger teenagers as they have no school 'to push' them into friendships. Regards, Babs

Hi Babs, my son is currently in Melbourne working, he is coming back to Brisbane sometime in December, then planning on traveling again for a short while. Yeah I do think it is difficult for them. If Luke does find anything re football when he is back here I will let you know.

Hi there

My family and I have just moved to Mango Hill and I'm interested to see whether the adult soccer competition has moved from being an idea. Whilst I am in Australian, my partner is English and up until our recent move here he had been playing at the indoor comp at Brisbane Grammar School. We'd love to find somewhere local.

Hope to hear from some eager indoor adult futsal players.

Anne

 Hi Ann,

Check out the local Footbal club - North Lakes Mustangs - www.northlakesmustangs.com.au

Registration days are coming up soon (check website for details), and it certainly looks like we'll be having a senior men's team this year.  Contact us for more info.

Thanks!
