There's Osprey House just down the road. They have a walkway where you can see quite a number of bird shaped things. There's a picnic area and mosquito's as big as birds too, big vampire birds...

Mind you, when summer hits you can walk through town and see plenty of birds. I love Brisbane.

We went to Osprey House a couple of times last trip. Very nice, mosquitoes aside. And yes, the birdwatching can be quite good in Brisbane. I especially like the tall ones.

What I was hoping for was to find someone local with similar interests, perhaps for day trips. And, of course, to share expenses.

One of my Jack Russell Terrors (sorry Terriers), "Russ" has been barking more than usual lately. My cup of water trick hasn't been having the desired effect and I'm ashamed to say I was considering buying one of those 'zapping' collars on the weekend!
Sat morning I discovered what has been upsetting him so much. I mother bird has decided to set up her nest in one of our Lily Pily hedges (about 2 metres off the ground). This happens to be one of Russ's favourite tress for lazing around under during the day. Upon closer investigation we discovered 2 beautiful chicks inside nest. Every time the mother returns to her chicks Russ becomes very upset.
I searched the net and have discovered that they are "Spotted Turtle Doves" http://www.birdsinbackyards.net/finder/display.cfm?id=41.
We have moved our dogs into another section of the yard until these little ones decide to take flight. I've never really been interested in bird watching, but I must say that we have enjoyed watching the little chicks grow over the past 2 days. I read that they spend about 14 days in the nest after hatching, so it will be sad when the nest soon becomes empty. Though I think Russ would disagree...
