Hi,

I will be in Brisbane during the end of May, beginning of June with my family for a reccie visit before we move out permanently. We will be visiting the North Lakes / Mango Hill area to see if it is the place for us. Does anyone recommend any must see / do things while in this area? We would like to get a good feel for the area as well as the other local suburbs so we will have a look at the new housing developments and probably have a look around the coastal area.

Any recommendations of what to go and see and do would be appreciated.

PS.  If you see a family of poms lurking around suspiciously then don't worry it will probably just be us!!!

Ian, if you email me the dates (ilive@northlakes.com.au) you'll be here I'd be happy to show your family around North Lakes.

You would probably want to take a drive down to Redcliffe (15mins from North Lakes). If you have a look at the maps section on our website, zoom out a little - Redcliffe is basically to the right on the water. If you like seafood you can part with your money at Morgans seafood - very nice.

While you're in the area you may like to head up to Australia Zoo with crazy Steve Erwin - you never know, he may be feeding a small member of his family to a croc  (there is a story to this and don't worry, no one was injured, physically)

You can also go to Underwater World - one of my favourites - it's about 45mins north of North Lakes. I got in free a few times whilst helping to supervise a group of year 1's.

Up that way you could also head up to Mary Cairns Cross Park (I hope I have spelt that correctly) and then onto Montville - Montville is a great place to purchase expensive crafts and lollies.

If your looking for a lovely scenic drive, Mt Glorious / Mt Nebo is a beautiful drive in the late afternoon.

We often (partner and I) go for a drive through the rainforest part of the nebo drive. It's spectacular.. we visited Cairns recently and there isn't much different between the two places.

Ensure you have a full tank of fueld (very important), 13.3km up the mountain from Samford and it's 16km at the top of the mountain you can turn left and head back through Nebo and end up at The Gap or turn right and drive through Wiven Hoe lookout.
