The 11th of August 2009 marked the Official Opening of the North Lakes Scout Group. The evening was a resounding success, with everything running smoothly under the guiding hand of John McKinnon.

A large crowd consisting of parents, and a majority of the Leaders from the District attended, along with several special guests including the Chief Commissioner of Queensland Scouts. Guests of note were the Regional Commissioner for Near North City and Coast Region, Councillor Julie Greer, Stocklands Manager Peter Lightbody and representatives from the North Lakes State College and Queensland Police. District Commissioner of Murrumba District, Jenny Annand, who initiated scouting in North Lakes, was also there to see her goal of getting the Group started come to fruition. Being officially opened and acknowledged by the North Lakes community and the Scouting community is just reward for Jenny, who has driven this project from the initial idea to the blossoming Group we now have.

Formalities were kept to the minimum required with inspiring speeches from the Chief Commissioner and Regional Commissioner. The children who attended were very well behaved during the brief bout of speeches, and were presented with their North Lakes name tapes for their uniforms. The flag party consisting of Joeys, Cubs and Scouts did a marvellous job and our all our new flags presented a colourful backdrop for the night. Supper followed the opening and was greatly enjoyed by all present.
