For anyone who owns a bicycle

Dutton Cycles Racing & Recreation Club has been working to raise awareness of and get support for a cycling precinct in North Brisbane.

We have identified a parcel of land on the Dakabin side of Kerr Road that has been earmarked for recreation use by Moreton Bay Regional Council. This land would be a perfect location for a cycling precinct.

A concept study report for a cycling precinct has been completed and submitted to Moreton Bay Regional Council. The report proposes that a cycling precinct be located at Dakabin which contains the following facilities:
Criterium circuit
MTB short course circuit
MTB skills area
MTB/BMX pump track
Road safety/skills area

The overall driver for the study is that a precinct will cater for young to old, recreation to sport, dirt to road and enhance the development and skills of cyclists. The study details uses beyond a racing community, and also looks at the community in its surrounding environs and education. The concept was tried several years ago in the western suburbs, but didn't get off the ground, and some lessons have been taken from Toowoomba's successful bid for a crit track. All this, plus a tonne of statistics about cycling participation have been used to define the need for such a precinct.

Hopefully, as a part of the current sport and recreation strategy planning being undertaken by the MBRC that the feasibility of this concept will be considered further, and this is your opportunity to be vocal about the need for better cycling facilities in the area.

The link to report the concept study report is via http://www.duttoncycles.org.au/Resource ... t_2010.pdf

If you support the concept please sign an online petition by visting (due to the petition being an online app it asks for a donation after you sign it, just close it and the signiture is added):

Don't be put off by the crit track bit as the dirt info is contained in the petition statement, and it was pitched to roadies to gain traction initially.

If you live in the area, also complete the MBRC Strategy Survey by visiting:

Thanks for your support!
